St. Nicholas-St. Mary’s Celebrates Our Lady of the Rosary

Students in 7th grade led the entire school in praying the “Living Rosary”. Students prayed together as a students processed large rosary beads down the aisle of the church. We have a strong devotion to our Blessed Mother and we teach the children to pray the Rosary often.living-rosary-2016

Bishop Bambera Visits

Bishop MassThe Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., bishop of Scranton, recently visited our school and celebrated Mass for our student body. Bishop Bambera delivered a message of finding Jesus by serving others. As a gift to Bishop Bambera, the student body presented 525 pounds of food to be donated to the St. Nicholas food pantry. They also presented a gift of $500 to the St. Vincent dePaul Kitchen in Bishop Bambera’s honor. The 8th graders will volunteer there on May 31 and will serve lunch to the people who use the soup kitchen. Bishop Bambera was joined by Msgr. David Tressler, superintendent of Catholic Schools. Honoring the Saints

St. Nicholas-St. Mary School students honored the saints during a “Celebration of the Saints Mass” held on November 6. Since All Saints Day fell on a Saturday this year, the school students held their “Celebration of Saints” at their regular Thursday morning Mass. The fourth grade continued this Catholic School tradition by coordinating the Mass and dressing up as chosen saints. Many fourth graders chose to dress up as their patron saint. Each student that dressed up was invited to the microphone to share some of the reasons why that person is a saint in the Church. Among the saints that were present: St. Charles Borromeo, St. Ann, St. Rita, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Joan of Arc and St. Cecelia.
