All grade levels receive daily instruction in the following subject areas:
- Religion — Students are taught the concepts of prayer, worship, scripture, and doctrine. Our goal is to develop young people who are responsible followers of Jesus Christ and have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith. Students are immersed in church through daily prayer, weekly Mass and liturgical services such as Stations of the Cross, Recitation of the Rosary, and Eucharistic Adoration.
- Mathematics — Students learn all basic mathematical concepts in their early years and continually build upon and improve those skills while learning new one. The Mathematics program at St. Nicholas/St. Mary School follows the Diocese of Scranton Math curriculum, designed to reflect Pennsylvania Core Standards. This curriculum was designed by educators within the Diocese of Scranton. It is designed to challenge students and give them a firm foundation as they look forward to higher level math in their high school years. Grades 5 through 8 are tracked into either a regular math class, or an accelerated math class. The accelerated program culminates in 8th grade with students studying Algebra I.
- English/ Language Arts — English/Language Arts (ELA) is taught to the earliest of grade levels. Teachers use a curriculum designed by educators in the Diocese of Scranton to reflect the Pennsylvania Core Standards. These standards include grammar, writing, reading literature, reading informational text, and speaking/listening. Spelling and vocabulary are also part of the ELA curriculum.
